To get started, click the blue “Use Template” button to open the activity diagram template in FigJam. Once inside, invite collaborators by clicking the blue “Share” button at the top right of your FigJam board. This will grant them access to edit or comment on your diagram.
Follow these steps to fill out the activity diagram template:
- Identify a Process
Choose the process or workflow you want to visualize. Activity diagrams are ideal for mapping complex, multi-step workflows. For instance, you could map out a customer service process, starting from receiving a query to resolving the issue.
- Add Start and End Points
In one of the yellow rectangles, double-click the text to write down the event that starts your process (e.g., "Receive a query" for a customer service process). Similarly, edit the black rectangle labeled "Wrap up" to indicate the closing event (e.g., "Resolve the issue").
- Add the Steps
Map out the actions, decisions, and steps that occur between your start and end points. Double-click any pre-made shape to replace the text with your own labels.
Need more shapes? The template’s automated diagramming features make it easy to expand. Click any pre-made shape to reveal blue dots along the edges. Clicking a dot generates a new arrow with a matching shape on the other end.
- Connect the Elements
Use arrows to show the flow of your process and how each step is connected. Click any arrow to reveal white dots, which you can click and drag to adjust its position. You can also modify the arrow’s style using the pop-up menu to change the line thickness, end style, or color.
- Add Labels
Use the pre-made text boxes along the arrows to add important labels. For example, if a decision in the process leads to two outcomes, you could label one arrow “Positive outcome” and the other “Negative outcome” to clarify the flow.
- Share Your Diagram
Once your activity diagram is complete, you can share it for feedback or collaboration. Invite your team to view and comment on the FigJam board, or export the diagram as an image or PDF. You can also generate a shareable link or embed it on other platforms your team uses.
